MATES in Construction is excited to announce the support of Australian singer Karise Eden. Karise first appeared on our TV screens in 2012 when at age 19, she won The Voice. |
Karise resonated with audiences not only because of her incredible voice, but her down-to earth personality and resilience born from a tough childhood that saw her out on her own in her early teens. Having come out the other side, stronger than ever, Karise wants to support MATES to help others who might be going through a tough time. Karise understands our industry, firsthand – MATES supporting MATES - and will help share the charity's suicide prevention message, so workers don’t feel alone when they’re struggling with life, are experiencing poor mental health and to give hope to those who have lost someone they care about - like she has. “I’m excited to announce that I’m supporting ‘MATES in Construction’, a suicide prevention charity aimed at reducing the high rates of suicide among mining, energy and construction workers,” she said. “I lost one of the most important people in my life a few years ago. A wound that doesn’t seem to ever heal. Karise has recently released a song - straight from her heart - about the loss of someone special in her world, 'My Old Friend'. In this powerful video she also talks about why it's important to check in with anyone in your world that you might be worried about. “There is a lot of raw, honest power in the track. It’s still painful for me to sing but I hope that anyone who’s lost someone they love, can find comfort in it. Grief is a tricky emotion to experience but know that you're not alone.” Karise’s husband Wade has worked in construction and mining and has struggled with his own difficult times. Wade was case managed by MATES in Construction QLD during this time and Karise said the immediate, professional support he received from the MATES team in QLD, was life changing for their family.
