MATES and Privacy
MATES in Construction is dedicated to protecting the information that we collect and hold about you.
MATES in Construction Aust Ltd and our member organisations (MATES in
Construction Qld, NSW, SA and WA) are considered to be ‘APP entities’
as defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act),
and therefore are required to adopt and abide by a privacy policy.

What personal information does MATES collect and hold?
We collect and hold both personal and sensitive information about you. Some examples of personal information which we collect about you include your address, your date of birth and your occupation.
We will only collect sensitive information about you if it is reasonably necessary for one or more of our functions or activities. We will seek your consent before we collect sensitive information about you. An example of sensitive information which we collect about you include details about mental health issues, sexuality or union membership.

We
will only collect information about you if it is reasonably necessary
for us to pursue at least one of our functions or activities.
How does MATES collect information about you?
We
collect information about you from you directly, for example
information you have given us by completing one of the forms available
on our website.
We may also collect information about you indirectly but only where
it is unreasonable
or impracticable for us to collect the information
directly from you.
We will notify you that we are collecting personal information at the time when we collect this information, or as soon practicable after collection.
We will only collect personal information by lawful and fair means
and not in an unreasonably intrusive way.
Does MATES use or disclose information that we hold about you?
We will only use the information collected about you for the purpose that it was collected for.

We do not disclose your information to any overseas recipients.
How is information about you protected by MATES?
We
take all reasonable steps to protect the information held about you
from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorized access, modification and
disclosure.
If we no longer require the information that we hold about you
we
will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify the information.
